For such a compact island, Bute has some extraordinarily varied landscapes. From the lush, fertile and rolling hills of the island's heart to the craggy, heather-covered moorlands of the north and the delightful sandy beaches around the coastline.
Bute is only 15 miles long by 5 miles wide, yet has much to offer the visitor. Its main town, Rothesay, is a Victorian resort linked to the mainland by ferry from Wemyss Bay.
It is divided into highland and lowland areas by the Highland Boundary Fault.

Glenburn Hotel
The grand and friendly Glenburn Hotel is a landmark on the island haven of Bute, set in a prime position above delightful, terraced gardens commanding fantastic views over Rothesay Bay and the Cowal Peninsula, and a 15-minute walk from the town. The hotel offers 119 comfortable bedrooms; each fully equipped and decorated in a traditional country house style with tea/coffee making facilities included.
There is a large, informal restaurant and a sumptuous, cosy bar. There is also a library/snug and an outside terrace offering lovely views over the bay. Several steps are required to enter the hotel and there is no ramp, so this hotel is not suitable for wheelchairs.
