Clitheroe
The ancient market town of Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley is a perfect place to stay for visitors wishing to explore Lancashires Forest of Bowland. Clitheroe actually dates back to Saxon times so by the time the imposing 12th century Norman Castle that towers over the town had been built, Clitheroe had already been around for nearly 1,000 years! Clitheroe Castle is said to be the smallest Norman castle in England, is now home to a Museum.
Settle
Settle is thought to have 7th-century Anglian origins, its name being the Angle word for settlement. In 1249 a market charter was granted and a market square developed and the main route through the medieval town was aligned on an east-west direction, from Albert Hill, Victoria Street, High Street and Cheapside and on through Kirkgate.
Framed by stunning countryside and iconic landmarks, the quaint town of Settle is an ideal stop for walkers, outdoor lovers and those looking for peace and quiet. Nestled in the shadow of the striking Castleberg Crag, this sleepy town is famous for its lively outdoor market, breathtaking railway line and Victoria Hall.
